Why Stay Local?

At The Event Hub Dacorum, we want to help local businesses and organisations to thrive. We aim to do this by putting all that’s on in Berkhamsted and HP4, in one place – our website

This means that people can easily see all that the town and surrounding villages have to offer, and not miss out on that festival, that talk, or live gig they would have loved to have gone to, if only they’d known…

But why should you keep-to-date with the small businesses and organisations on Berkhamsted high street? And what benefit does ‘staying local’ really bring?

Support local, stay local, shop local to help Berkhamsted & HP4 thrive.

You help the local economy

A very basic example: the money you spend on a local class is money that your class leader can use in the local café, book-shop or pub etc. So, what you might think is a one-off payment goes much further in helping local businesses across the board.

And, as many of these organisers employ people from the local community, you are helping to create a healthy jobs market, too.

You make culture accessible

By going to the local book festival, you show the event organisers that there is an appetite for culture in the town. This inspires organisers to hold more events and gives the wider community more opportunities to experience arts and culture (without having to leave their area and pay for expensive train tickets).

You will also be doing your bit to encourage emerging artists from the local area, many of whom make their first steps on the stage at local festivals and showcases.

You support local charities

It is common for events published in The Event Hub to have a charitable element, with proceeds of concerts and performances going towards local charities, schools and causes. That great night of music can raise funds for important public services in our borough.

You help the environment

By choosing to stay local, you will most likely cut out the need to get in the car. Going to that open garden afternoon that is walking distance away reduces your contribution to traffic and air pollution.

You give our streets character and originality

What would our streets be without our independent businesses? A lot of boarded up shop-fronts. Online or chain stores aren’t always best, not for quality or a personal touch.  By buying local, by supporting the special events in our area, we do ourselves a favour: we have the face-to-face interactions that are so important for our well-being; we make friends and keep in touch with old ones; we keep our local areas lively and vibrant places in which to live.

So here’s to the local businesses and organisations that make Berkhamsted and HP4 so special!
