Things to do this autumn in Berkhamsted

From country walks to firework displays – we have some ideas for how to spend this autumn in Berkhamsted & HP4

With each new season, a new Berkhamsted. The town and surrounding villages are stunning in their autumn coats. These are the months that we love to get into nature and cosy up in our favourite high street cafe or pub. Here are some more ideas for how to spend this time of year in Berkhamsted & HP4 from The Event Hub Dacorum.

Country walks

The Chiltern Society’s FREE guided walks celebrate the landscapes of the Chilterns. In October, they will be leading a trail through Ashridge Estate, where you can discover historic routes and take in Berkhamsted Common.

Have a family photoshoot

Berkhamsted-based photographer Lyndsey Abercromby will be running three photoshoots for families, using the autumn woodland of Ashridge as a backdrop for photos to treasure forever.

Take an evening workshop

Local artist Sarah Bryan is running a series of relaxed Earth + Vine Ceramics workshops, where you can create your own wine cooler. Bring your own booze/bubbles to get the creativity flowing. The workshops are for all abilities and a great way to do something different in the evening!

Celebrate Halloween cabaret-style

You are never too old to love Halloween!  The Lounge at Graze Life are holding a spooktacular version of their Cabaret Brunch, where you can feast on graze boards and cocktails, while being thrilled by Disney villains and Harry Potter-themed entertainment.

Fireworks with the Rotary Club

For Bonfire Night in Berkhamsted, it has to be the Rotary Club’s annual display at the Cricket Club, which is supported by local schools and groups in the town.  This year, the fireworks will be linked to music, lighting and lasers to create a dazzling show.

Get lost in a good read

We would be shouting loudly about November’s Berko Book Fest, but as there are only two tickets left at the time of writing we had better wish the lucky ticket holders a wonderful bookish festival! If you missed out this year, you can cheer yourself up by a visit to the reader’s paradise that is The Berkhamsted Bookshop to find a new title to curl up with!

Shop local

One way to mark the season is to bring the signs of autumn into our homes. Our high street has numerous gorgeous independent shops to help you with this quest. See & Quirky’s window display of toadstools and pumpkins for interiors inspiration! We also really love Cook & Butler’s beeswax candles to bring a warm glow on those dark nights.

Have a hearty meal

Last month Prime Steak opened its doors in Berkhamsted’s beautiful old town hall – coinciding very nicely, we say, when the thought of a hearty dinner and something strong to drink is heaven in these cold, blustery days. We can’t wait for our first taste!
