Learn Something New … Talks in Berkhamsted

In this post, we look at the organisations on The Event Hub Dacorum that are running talks to enlighten and inspire the local community in Berkhamsted and HP4.

The Arts Society Gade Valley

The Arts Society Gade Valley is a local arts society and part of the National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS). Its lectures take place at Potten End Village Hall once a month, and are a great way to connect with like-minded people through a shared curiosity for the arts.  The society’s next talks cover the garden design of Gertrude Jekyll (15 Feb) and the cursed objects of the British Museum (15 Mar)!

Berkhamsted Local History & Museum Society

Discover the history behind the Berkhamsted you know today. Berkhamsted Local History & Museum Society (BLHMS) run a series of talks from September to March, at Berkhamsted Town Hall. Speakers are often historians or subject experts and offer new insights into local history. The society’s next event examines the secret life of country houses in Hertfordshire during WWII (15 Feb).

Berkhamsted Gardeners’ Society

This society was established in 1975 for keen gardeners to meet and exchange ideas. The society holds regular talks at Northchurch Social Centre. Last month the society held a very pertinent event on plants for climate change with Professor Sandy Primrose. We look forward to keeping you up-to-date with future talks and meetings.

Chiltern Arts

Chiltern Arts brings music, literature and art to the towns and villages in and around the Chiltern Hills. They run a ‘Winter Warmer’ three-day festival in March and a week-long festival in May, with a series of events coming to Berkhamsted in spring 2023! This year the theme is one we can all relate to: ‘Love, Loss and the Passage of Time’. Poetry lovers will be delighted to hear that as part of the March festival, the Chiltern Arts will be holding a talk at the Mad Squirrel with scholar and writer Dr Mark Burrows on the Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke (2 Mar).

The Wellness Hub

The Wellness Hub on Lower Kings Road is all about improving your health and wellbeing. Its holistic team of experts offer treatments and advice to care for your mind and body. This month the hub will hold ‘Thriving not Surviving’, an evening dedicated to empowering women, with talks by Ruth Cooper-Dickson, Thrivership Coach, and Alex Standley, Personal Stylist (28 Feb). There will also be the opportunity to shop, have a glass of fizz (good AF options available!) and enjoy an evening that’s all about you!
