Profile
From the 17th century onwards the people fought to protect their rights from the enclosures of their landlords. This came to a head with the dramatic events of 1866 when Earl Brownlow enclosed a section of the Common. The fences were torn down by a group of navvies from London. This tour takes you along the route where enclosure was attempted and details the events which took place.
