A two hour introductory class led by Paul Rowbottom, for absolute beginners – you will learn the very basics of throwing on the potters wheel. This will include weighing and preparing balls of clay before you start, then the basics of the wheel – from centring your clay, pulling, shaping and working with your tools, beginning to learn the techniques for finishing a bowl and throwing a plate.
This is a fun and quick way to introduce yourself to throwing on the wheel and is suitable for complete beginners.
After the session you can choose to book in for a glazing session once your work has been bisque fired, where you can decorate your piece(s) in a range of colours, adding pattern etc as you wish, before your piece is final fired. Alternatively, you can opt to have your piece(s) glazed for you in one solid colour (there are a couple of shades to choose from) and final fired, which is part of this class fee. Depending on which option you choose, your pieces will be ready for pick-up no sooner than three weeks after the class – please see www.opendoorberkhamsted.co.uk/TheStudio for collection times.
Class size of 6 with your own dedicated pottery wheel. Suitable for those aged 14 plus. Please wear appropriate clothing as you will get clay on yourself! Find out more about The Studio.
