In this session you will be guided by your tutor Sarah Bryan to make beautiful herb + spice labels, using slab + press techniques.
Roll out clay slabs and carve into herb label shapes. Press letter stamps into the clay for various herb / plant names. Herb labels to be left plain, with lettering highlighted only.
This is one of 4 hand building classes which Sarah teaches (herb + spice labels, wind chimes, leaf plates, hanging plant pots) – if you’d rather do one of the other projects, you can absolutely switch when you arrive on the evening!
This is a fun and quick way to introduce yourself to basic hand-building technique and is suitable for complete beginners, as well as intermediates looking to expand their hand-building knowledge.
After the session you can choose to book in for a glazing session once your work has been bisque fired, where you can decorate your piece(s) in a range of colours, adding pattern etc as you wish, before your piece is final fired. Alternatively, you can opt to have your piece(s) glazed for you in one solid colour (there a couple of shades to choose from) and final fired, which is part of this class fee. Depending on which option you choose, your pieces will be ready for pickup no sooner than 3 weeks after the class – please see www.opendoorberkhamsted.co.uk/TheStudio for collection times.
Class size of 6 with your own workspace and guidance from Sarah. Suitable for those aged 14 plus. Please wear appropriate clothing as you will get clay on yourself.
