The heritage talks postponed after the death of Her Majesty the Queen have been re-scheduled. We present two talks exploring the fascinating historic symbolism around St Peter’s Church. Come and see our latest findings and join our speculations on what they might mean.
7pm – Historical Graffiti – Susan Holmes
St Peters is fortunate to have a rich and varied collection of graffiti , on its pillars and walls. They can be regarded as the lost voices of the people of Berkhamsted – who wanted to leave their mark. This graffiti was more acceptable then and was often painstakingly carved. It includes music, text, crosses and protective signs.
8pm – Heraldry – John Abbott
This includes a general introduction to Heraldry with descriptions and examples of the coats of arms of local families displayed in the stained glass windows , memorial tablets and hatchments and links to local history over the past 800 years.
