Profile
Whilst the ‘Old Town’ of Amersham is very well documented, the ‘New Town’ – now over a century old – is much less well preserved & has little protection. The talk will concentrate on the development of the Amersham of today, from the arrival of the railway, the subsequent early buildings, through the heyday of the ‘Arts & Crafts’ period & onto ‘Metroland’ and Modernism – with a focus on the significance of local architect J. H. Kennard.
